Travel Update

This week brought us that much closer to Shu Fang! On 4.24 we received our travel approval from the Chinese government. Once we had that in hand our agency was able to request an exit interview date with the US Consulate in Guangzhou. They will provide us with a visa for our daughter to travel to the States.

Friday, we heard from the consulate that we were assigned an exit interview date of 5.31.06. This is the critical component we have been waiting for. With it we can now make our travel arrangements. The process in China looks like it will play out as such:

5.13: Depart Washington for Beijing
5.14: Arrive in China
5.14: Sleep all day ;)
5.15-5.20: Sight seeing (maybe Pandas in Chengdu, Sichuan Province or terra cotta Warriors in X'ian, Shaanxi Province
5.21: Our group meets up in Beijing
5.22: Tours of Beijing
5.23: Leave in the morning for Changsha, Hunan Provence
5.23: Meet Shu Fang in the afternoon!
5.24: Registration in the morning
5.25-5.28: Leisure days
5.29: Shu Fang's passport is ready in the morning
5.29: Flight to Guangzhou in the afternoon
5.30: Shu Fang gets her visa picture taken and a medical exam
5.31: Exit interview appointment at Consulate
6.1: Pick up visa at Consulate by 5pm
6.2: Depart Guangzhou for Hong Kong
6.3: Depart Hong Kong for States

As soon as we got the email with our interview date, I started calling the airlines for fares. Michelle and I have always planned on going earlier than the adoption process required so we will arrive a week before we need to meet with our group. We hope to see the Pandas, if possible.

On Tuesday May 2 we have our travel meeting at our agency and we will learn more of the details.

WE GOT OUR REFERRAL!

On Tuesday March 28, 2006 at 10:30 am we were introduced for the first time to Shu Fang, our daughter. We couldn't be happier.

She was born in the Hunan province on August 29, 2005. Her name means content and fragrant like a flower.

We are told she is a very healthy and happy little girl who like noise toys and kicks her feet when she gets excited.

Hopefully, we will travel to China in May 2006 to bring her home.
